My fellow students and I arrived at the Annecy-2008. |
One hour later, we collected our badges and sniffed around in the culture of Annecy France |
My heart pumped faster then normally, our adrenaline was higher then ever and our motivation was at its limit. We finished our dinner, Subway, and went straight to bed. |
Unfortunately there were some who had to stay in tents, We didn’t. |
The plans were corrupted. In our mission for going to bed, we were distracted by the other group and we ended up listening to songs. Here I discovered my new best friend, a classmate who turned out to be unbelievable good at playing the guitar. |
We finished our first screening, Piano Forrest, and I’ve never slept better. So to kill the time, we shot a couple zombies. |
Level two, bigger zombies! |
And then, we shot some terrorists, to make the world a bit more save again. |
I died, and my partner, was up to the task to save the world from dramatic destruction, by himself. |
Oe, a bootleg picture. This is Nocturna, a France, Spanish movie. The story was simple but ok, some 3D effects that I didn’t understand and I didn’t feel one with the character, but I loved the style of this picture. |
Awesome, we were in line to get tickets for “students in competition”. |
Box moment… |
| More friends... |
More friends...... |
Students in competition, yeah…aw…well, there where some movies that we liked, or understood |
My frist Ice-scream in France this year, ordered in full French (I practiced this one line at home). |
We did’t have tickets and we had to give some elbows, we made it into the exclusive and special presentation of Disney and Pixar. Here we saw the premiere of the new Goofy cartoon, (john Lasseter want to see the big 5 again, Goofy, Pluto, Mickie Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck), the new Disney short “Glago’s Guest” and the new pixar short “Presto”. |
Ow, awesome, it’s going to begin… |
| Me and Doug Sweetland, the director of “Presto” |
On the left, Chuck Williams, producer of Disney shorts. On the right, Chris Williams (no relation), director of “Glago’s Guest”. I had a nice chat with him after this picture. |
Me and Harald Siepermann, He designed the characters of “Alfred J. Kwak", "Mulan" and "Tarzan". |
Me and my friends still watch Alfred at school when we work late, so he signed my bag. |
| Another presentation of Pixar. We learned some new things and after every presentation follows a presentation of RenderMan. Awesome possibilities there, but after seeing it twice, I couldn’t laugh again at the same jokes |
I wonder, is it obvious we come from the Netherlands? |
Between the satisfactions of my lust to see animations, there are some holes in my memorie of what happened. For instance, I have absolutely no idea what happened here. |
Waiting for the bus, and waiting 1 more hour, just to be in time of a “How to make a cheap animation movie” presentation. |
Off course, 50% of the lecture was in France. Besides my unlimited possibilities of ordering ice-cream in French, there wasn’t a single word I understood, thank happily there was a translator in the room. |
Bill Plympton, I loved his “guard dog” and I got interested in his new cartoon “Idiots and Angels”. After Hearing that he used Tom Waits music in this cartoon, I was soled. |
And Another presentation from Pixar. We only have snickers at our school. |
Me, her and some other behind the camera, eating ice-cream again. |
And more Ice-cream |
Well, I was not the only one taking pictures or making a video. |
We are 3D animators, so we watch 3D movies. |
A closer look at the scenery. |
Another presentation. To be honest, I had not idea what I was watching. So I made, secretly, some pictures of the art work. |
The Simpsons by Matt Groening and David Silverman. We stood in line for 2 hours but we got in. They showed some old stuff, some new stuff and talked about the world of creating the Simpsons. In short, the make changes at there story whenever it is necessary and wherever in the pipeline, they are getting better and faster in it and they get more money for it. |
| Waiting in line for the Igor presentation. |
A very sweet French girl, two thumbs up for Annecy. |
| Anthony Leondis, director of the new animated Feature "Igor", His advice to me, keep up the anatomy |
A slightly creative picture, looks like something for a gospel CD. |
And we goofed around a couple of times |
In line for the end ceremony of Annecy. |
| Waiting and waiting for the show to start. |
You see a hat, we watched the New Indiana Jones a week ago… you’ll get some ideas. |

of Annecy. |
Life can’t always be serious. |
Saying goodbye is always a sad moment but not the end. Our lust for Annecy is as sure as Holland’s miss for the Europe Cup title. We will return in 2009 to take a new, big, deep sniff in the France Flora of Annecy. |
| One last group hug. |
Fin. |
